The army launched the games at the height of the war that was brought to a successful conclusion in May 2009. Over 800 soldiers took part in the game; the SLLI emerged the winner. The SLLI, oldest infantry regiment suffered heavy casualties in the conflict. However, the current pro-separatists Federal Yahapalana Government sidelining the war winning heroes and working to prosecute them with the support of so-called International Community and with LTTE Tamil terrorists.
