Global Sri Lankans Forum Handed over a Petition to UNHRC Against Violation of Principles by UN
Global Sri Lankan Forum, GSLF a Forum of patriots of Sri Lankans living in the UK, Australia, Middle East, Canada, France, Switzerland, Poland, Israel, Italy, and Ireland submitted a petition to high Commissioner of the UNHRC bring to his attention the continuing violation of the principles of the United Nations charter and the UNHRC charter by the UN High Commissioner for Human Rights vis a vis UNHRC Resolution 30/1 on Sri Lanka.
The present petition follows the two previous petitions filed by GSLF in June 2017, in which GSLF endeavored to document the unfair, unjust and unreasonable conduct of the High Commissioner with respect to UNHRC resolution 30/1 of September 2015.
The citizens of Sri Lanka have no recourse in law against the High Commissioner, because of his diplomatic immunity. Further, the present Government of Sri Lanka GOSL has co-sponsored resolution 30/1, which means that the Government cannot be relied on to object to the High Commissioner’s conduct either. Therefore, the only hope for Sri Lankans lead by GSLF aggrieved by the High Commissioner’s actions is to acquaint UNHRC with what is happening, and also to place on record the related matters, so that in the event a future GOSL were to withdraw the co-sponsorship of resolution 30/1,
The petition was submitted by Rear Admiral Sarath Weerasekara in Geneva at the UNHRC general assembly.
