Open Letter to Mayor of Toronto
A Sri Lankan origin Canadian Barrister & Solicitor, Mr. Viresh Fenando has written a very descriptive open letter to Mayor of Toronto City, Mr. John Tory explaining what is meant by the so called genocide of Tamil in response to Mayor’s shortsighted proclamation of “Day of Tamil Genocide in City of Toronto on 18th May”.
Mr. Fernando had written that it is widely accepted that as in any other conflict, the lengthy struggle to put down the Tamil Terrorist Insurgency resulted in a certain number of very unfortunate civilian deaths and damage and destruction to civilian infrastructure of all four of that country’s four principal ethnic groups. This happened principally because the cowardly Tamil Terrorists including self-styled supreme Leader Vellupillai Prabhakaran hid among Tamil civilians in order to evade capture and ordered the targeting of civil institutions and civilians.
Further written that Mayor’s ill-advised action has insulted the victims and descendants of the many social, ethnic, religious and other groups that the entire world has recognized as being true victims of genocide in the 20th and 21st century.
The letter sent by Mr. Fernando explained that in the 20th century commenced with the massacre of up to 1.8 million Armenians, followed by the horrors of the Holocaust, the tens of millions who succumbed to famines deliberately created by Stalin, more recently the Cambodian genocide initiated by the madman Polpot, the massacre of the Tutsi’s by the Hutus, to the ongoing genocide of the Yazadi people and the Rohynga people that Canada is actively involved in alleviating. I have attached as an appendix a comprehensive, internationally recognized list of 20th and 21 century genocides. Not surprisingly, there is no mention of the Your Worhip’s imaginary “Tamil Genocide” on this list.
