People Praise Releasing of Sunil Rathnayake
The release of Sri Lankan war hero, sergeant major Sunil Rathnayake who averted a major Tamil terrorist attack in the high security zone of Jaffna in 2000 was praised by all sectors of Sri Lanka.
Sri Lankan President Gotabaya Rajapaksa released Sunil Ratnayake, who was sentenced to death in 2015 for a killing of military trained Tamils who were in a mission within the high security area in Jaffna in 2000.
Buddhist monks, patriot people, nationalist organizations, individuals who worked tirelessly for the last five years to secure this release celebrating this historic release by posting a video comments on Facebook and releasing messages.
Ven. Mẹḍille Panngaloka thero , the convener of the Sinhala Jathika Sanvidhanaya, issued a congratulatory and thanking statement to President Gotabaya Rajapaksa and Secretary of Defence, Major General Kamal Gunaratne (Retired) for releasing Ratnayake.
Sunil Ratnayake himself and his wife also thanked the monks and all organizations, individuals who campaigned for his release.
Sunil Rathnayake was given a “hero welcome” by his villagers, family members, Buddhist priests in the village temple.
Nationalists and peace loving Sri Lankan in locally and all over the world glorified the release of their war hero.
The incident had occurred during an operation in the high security area by the members of the deadly Deep Penetration Unit of the Sri Lankan Army head by a Lieutenant and a Captain.
