Let’s Teach Sumanthiran a Lesson – Let’s Save Kanniya

I informed you in writing that the Archaeology Department recently started the renovation of the Kanniya hot water wells, and that a writ petition filed by a woman called Kovil Amma from Trincomalee asking to stop this renovation was taken up for hearing and postponed to August 31st.

That case was taken up on August 31st and you must be well informed and think carefully about what happened there.

Previously, there was a settlement in a case regarding the Kanniya hot water wells. I have informed you about that before as well. According to that, it was discussed to remove the Hindu Kovil from the archaeological site and to conserve the Chaitya which has been named as an archaeological monument in accordance with archaeology. (Although this was not a respect for the religious thoughts of Buddhists, we agree to this decision to avoid an ethnic conflict)

According to the settlement in that case, the renovation of this stupa was started by the Department of Archaeology. We must accept one thing. We must appreciate the Department of Archaeology for starting the renovation work here in this way at least.

In fact, we must talk about the real situation here. We must understand our fault. We must expose the extremist acts happening in this country. We must understand the downfall of the Sinhalese. We must accept that the Sinhalese who sits waiting until the problem comes to his own doorstep and until then slings mud at those who stand up for this cause, is the destruction of the race in this country.

Let’s talk about the August 31 case. Lawyers from the Attorney General’s Department are presented for cases of state institutions. Even if a state institution has a legal officer, he gives the necessary advice for the case but does not appear for the case. Accordingly, the Attorney General’s Department nominated for this case a very junior lawyer, a Tamil lawyer.

I have appeared for cases in the Trincomalee court plenty of times. Apart from one or two lawyers who come from Colombo, the Trincomalee Magistrate’s Court is full of Tamil lawyers. They speak in Tamil language. Then from the side of Kovil Amma, Sumanthiran had appeared for this case. The young Tamil lawyer appearing on our behalf stood up from his seat when he saw Sumanthiran. Almost the entire court stands up when Sumanthiran arrives and at that moment what spreads throughout the court is Sumanthiran’s dominance. Injunctions are received in that manner.

Now I think the nature of this is clear to you. So what should we do? What we must do is oppose this cunning exercise of Sumanthiran. Go and see how cases are heard in the courts in the North or East. Then you will never write poems about coexistence.

So what should we do? You get up from the bed. Come out of the house. This must be answered through a people’s force. They become powerful enough that we cannot cry. Now you must cry. You who gathered filling Galle Face when there was a gas shortage, when there was no fuel for the vehicle, should not think hundreds of thousands of times to protect your own heritage.

Sumanthiran does this wicked act everywhere. This extremist is not ready to accept as a heritage of the country or as obedience to the law a place that has reached a settlement by a court verdict. He challenges the law, he insults the court. The court accepts that insult out of fear. You must understand the seriousness of this.

Ok let’s organize. Sumanthiran’s verdicts obtained by cunningly intimidating this court and this thuggish work must be ended.
Then let’s build a great people’s force to not allow any renovation done in Hindu Kovils in the North or South. That is not for us to become extremists but to teach Sumanthiran a lesson. Remember. The Mullaitivu Magistrate who danced doing wicked work as Sumanthiran had to flee the country fearing the Sinhala people’s voice.

Let’s teach Sumanthiran a lesson
Let’s pressure the Minister of Justice to provide skilled Sinhala lawyers from the Attorney General’s Department for our cases. What the Minister of Justice should do is not extend the retirement age of judges but to make the Attorney General’s Department independent so that extremist crises cannot be created in such big problems.

Let’s carry this slogan.
Let’s save Kanniya, Kurundi, Wadunnagala from extremists.
