Pictures taken on top of Kiralagala Cheithiya by Eight Muslims Undergrad. remanded

The eight Muslim extremists’ men, who posted photos taken on top of the ruins of ancient Kiralagala Cheithiya in Horowpothana on social media, were remanded till February 5 by the Kebithigollewa Magistrate.
The seven suspects were arrested by the Horowpothana Police last evening while another suspect was arrested this morning.
Men who are final year students of the South Eastern University’s engineering faculty where majority are Tamil and Muslim students outnumbered the Sinhala students, were arrested within the university premises.

The culprits who insulted the ancient Buddhists heritage site are Mohammed Zamil, Abdulla Salam Mohammed, Abdulla Azeek Mohammed Azeek, Mohammed Jalil Hibayan, Mohammed Ibrahim Seepan, Mohammed Rispan, Abdulla Aziz Dilshan, Kareem Mohammed Sabra.

In the recent past numbers of attacks were carried out against Buddhists and Buddhism in Sri Lanka. The frequency of such attacks were increased following the Yahapalana government came to power on 8th of Jan. 2015 with the support of western powers to the anti-Sinhala Buddhist UNP political party lead by pro-minority Ranil Wickramasinghe.
