FIRST TURF WICKET IN THE NORTH OPENED
The 1st ever Turf Wicket built in the North of Sri Lanka was opened today at 9.30 am. at St. Patrick’s College Jaffna by Chief Guest Hon. Sanath Jayasuriya and The Guests of Honour Secretary of SLC Mr. Nishantha Ranatunga, SF Commander General Udaya Perera, and the Principal of St. Partick’s College.
This turf wicket was a concept of Hon. Sanath Jayasuriya MP who together with Major General Udaya Perera, the Security Force Commander, Jaffna made this a reality for the sportsmen of the North & East. Sri Lanka Cricket Executive Committee unanimously approved the expenditure of Rs. 3 million on the Turf wicket & Rs. 5 million for the ground construction. Troops of Security Force, Jaffna played a vital role by giving the manpower needed for this magnanimous venture.
Due to LTTE Tamil terrorism prevailed in Jaffna peninsula no sports were developed within Tamil youth. Most of the Tamil boys either has to join LTTE terrorists movement by force or their own wish.
