Pro-Minority Government Implement one more Election Promise to the Minority

In the pretext of charging that politicians are playing with the lives of pavement hawkers, Colombo Mayor, A.J.M.Muzammil executing his powers vested on him as the City Father lifting the ban imposed earlier by former Urban Development and Defence Secretary,Gotabaya Rajapaksa has instructed the Inspector General of Police, to allow pavement hawkers back to business on the pavements of the country’s Capital city of Colombo despite it is illegal and sever disturbance to the pedestrians. Further pavement hawkers are the one reason to city crime, drugs and other illegal activities. The public warmly welcomed the banning of pavement hawkers imposed by Rajapaksa government.

In the recent past, selling merchandise on the pavements of the areas falling under the Colombo Municipal Council was banned by the Urban Development Authority and former Defence Secretary Gotabaya Rajapaksa.
However, after repeated demands and orders by the pro-minority President and the anti-Sinhala Prime Minister to implement one of their pre-presidential election promises they made to minority political parties had ordered Muzammil to lift the ban in order to get the minority votes in the next general election. It is widely known fact that most of the pavement hawkers are from minority community in city of Colombo.

Last month Colombo city was selected at the first place among the fastest growing cities for the tourism. Pro-LTTE Ranil’s government looks like to undermine this achievement as it was a credit to the previous government of Mahinda Rajapaksa by lifting the ban on pavements hawkers.
