Jaffna University Teachers Failed to Condemns Racially Motivated Attack on Sinhala Students
The press release issued by the Jaffna University Teachers’ Association, (UJTA) is trying to paint a picture that the brutal attack by racially motivated Tamil students in University Jaffna is a general clash between the Sinhalese and Tamil students and was step short to recognize that the attack was initiated by extremist Tamils on Sinhala students.
Instead of addressing the core issue of Tamil racism and extremism, UJTA has taken stance to call students, staff, employees and administrators of all the universities in Sri Lanka to work towards keeping the university space free of violence and cultural intolerance and creating harmony and solidarity among student groups by giving the impression that other Universities of the countries has such violence.
Further, UJTA propagating the separatism motivated famous quote of multi-ethnic, multi-religious and multi-cultural slogan to take undue advantage at this crisis environment for the eelam agenda.
Similarly, Jaffna University Science Teachers’ Union (JUSTA) dodged in their so called Media Release blaming to all students; that “Some unwanted incidents related to the freshers’ welcome party led to violent clashes among the Students today. Some students were injured and are being treated in the hospital”, however, JUSTA failed to address the core issue of extremist Tamil students attack on the Sinhala Cultural event held in University of Jaffna.
Most of the so called Tamil academics and intellectuals are champions on writing, talking and lobbying of coexistence, reconciliations, equality so on, however, they all are maintaining tight lips on the discrimination going on against the Sinhalese living, working and studying in Northern province while over 60% of the total Tamil population of Sri Lanka are living among the majority Sinhala community in the rest of the Island.
