SLFP condemns racisit Wigneswaran and calls for legal actions – but gov. in tight lips
Sri Lanka Freedom Party (SLFP) strongly condemned the racist statements which had been made by the extremist Northern Province Chief Minister C.V. Wigneswaran.
SLFP Senior Vice Chairman Minister Nimal Siripala de Silva said the statement made by Wigneswaran ‘Tamils, wake up’ would have no option but to revisit power devolution and in particular the powers to be devolved to Chief Ministers when the new Constitution is drafted.
“He should not have uttered this kind of fanatic remarks which will inflame extremism in the North that agitates for a separate state and in the South that tries to create a fear psychosis among the public on a resurgence of LTTE separatism in the country,” Minister De Silva said.
This government will not tolerate hooligans and will do its utmost to defeat them at any cost, he said.
The SLFP urges Mr. Wigneswaran to withdraw his offensive remarks unconditionally and demanded the TNA which represented LTTE Tamil terrorists should take legal actions against him. The TNA leader R. Sampanthan must make a statement regarding the damage caused to inter communal harmony and added the SLFP was committed to protect the victory in 2009 and peace dawned after that.
“Though how much loud Wigneswaran barks, this government will never give into a federal structure of the State nor multiple powers demanded by racisit Wigneswaran and his fellow terrorists travellers,” he said.
Wigneswaran will never get what he expects from this government, the Minister said.
“We are for a unitary state and under no circumstances we betray our country, the nation, religion or the territorial integrity to any foreign power. We are not to be dictated by any power, individual or a country at any cost,” Minister De Silva stressed.
However, neither pro-minority President nor Federalist Prime Minister still failed to condemmed the racsism of Vingeshwaram.
