Australian Sri Lankans Demonstrated Against Ranil in Melbourne
Sri Lankans living in Australia organized a massive demonstration against Sri Lankan Prime Minister Ranil Wickramasinghe who was in Melbourne for Law Oration 2017 at the University of Deakin on 16th Feb. 2017.
The demonstrators raised their concerns on various national issues in Sri Lanka. Their main concerns were that;
- Danger of so called proposed separatist federalist constitution by Ranil Wickramasinghe ’s government empowering periphery at the expense of the Centre
- Singing of one sided Economic Co-operation Agreement, ECTA with India
- prosecution of war heroes to please the pro-LTTE sympathizers who supported Yahapana government in the elections.
- protecting the biggest robber of public funds at the central bank
A Public Demonstration and Protest was held on 16th Feb at 5 pm AT RIVER TERRACE adjoining Federation Square, Melbourne.
The protest demonstration to Prime Minster of Sri Lanka Ranil Wickramasinghe was organised by Society for Peace, Unity and Human Rights in Sri Lanka -Vic Inc. (SPUR-Vic.), Surakimu Lanka Melbourne Ekamuthuwa Inc. and Global Sri Lankan Forum (GSLF).
