Maithripala Srisena, the newly emerged UNP presidential candidate (the so called Common Opposition Candidate) has disclosed that he would have discussions with the Tamil National Alliance and it is learnt that already TNA is in touch with him and he has accepted the demands put forward by Sampanthan & Company.

Maithri tell us all the truth, nothing but the truth. Don’t try to sell the Motherland to LTTE rump

Has he sold the independence, indivisibility, peace and sustainability achieved in 2009 for TNA’s support and vote?

“The TNA has come to an understanding with the Common Opposition to support their common candidate – Maithripala Sirisena,” the Common Opposition’s Media Spokesman, Dr. Nirmal Ranjith Dewasiri, told.

The Tamil National Alliance had earlier stated that it would consider backing a common candidate at the upcoming presidential poll, if he or she meets requirements and conditions put forward by the TNA.

Mavai Senathirajah MP and leader of the Ilankai Tamil Arasu Kadchi which is one the constituent parties of the TNA said on his return from United States of America that the UPFA Government led by President Mahinda Rajapaksa has not fulfilled whatever demands the TNA had put forward to settling the Tamil question.

He added that “TNA will be meeting on Monday to decide on its stance with regard to the new political developments in the South. We have to act cautiously in taking our decisions. “

In the meantime R.Sampanthan leader of the Tamil National Alliance in an interview with BBC Sandeshaya had emphasized that the views expressed by Maithripala Sirisena, on television, during the press briefing on Friday, seems more realistic and that he likes Sirisena’s political agenda that has been revealed so far.

Asian Tribune reliably learnt that prior to the announcement of the candidacy, the stance of TNA has been made known to Maithripala Srisena through intermediaries and it has been accepted by him.

At this critical juncture, it is not clear whether the common candidate who has come forward to take Mahinda Rajapaksa in the Presidential Election was aware that the TNA has already pledged that, “amongst other matters” –

1. The TNA accepting LTTE’s leadership as the national leadership and also accepted LTTE as the true and sole representatives of the Tamils.

2. Also, the TNA has categorically stated that it has accepted the liberation struggle of the LTTE on behalf of the Tamil nation, honestly and truly and gives full cooperation to achieve it.

The 2004 Parliamentary Election Manifesto of the TNA and was signed by –

1. Mavai S. Senathirajah – General Secretary, Ilankai Tamil Arasu Kadchchi

2. G.G.Ponnampalam – General Secretary, All Ceylon Tamil Congress

3. Prasanna Indrakumar, General Secretary Tamil Eelam Liberation Organization &

4. Suresh Premachandran – Eelam People’s Revolutionary Liberation Front.

Up to date, TNA has not issued any statement rescinding or discontinuing or disassociating with all what they have publicly declared in the 2004 Election manifesto.

It is still not clear whether Maithripala Srisena has agreed to accept election alliance with the TNA – the LTTE rump which continues to glorify the killings of the LTTE and its leader Probhakaran.

Furthermore Maithripala Srisena is duty bound to the country to declare whether he has accepted the conditions laid down by the TNA regarding their offer to support him in the Presidential election.

The TNA demands include-

1.A solution to the ethnic issue

2. Withdrawing the Army from the Northern Province

3. Dismantling the High Security Zone in the Jaffna District

4. Resettling the people in the Northern Province on their own lands and

5. The release of hardcore LTTE prisoners.

In the meantime Asian Tribune also learnt that the TNA parliamentarians are meeting today to presided over by R. Sampanthan, leader of the TNA to announce their position publicly.

It was the same TNA leader Sampanthan and company who are involved in the commercialization of Tamil Eelam were the ones who in 2010 supported the candidature of Sarath Fonseka the former Army Commander.

The country awaits a clear announcement from Maithripala Srisena on what condition he has accepted the support of the TNA?

His pledges and promises to the rump LTTE Party with the view to win the Presidential Election at the cost of peace and sustainability of the country as a whole.
