Prophet or Performer? The Unregulated Empire of Jerome Fernando

With no religious registration, no institutional oversight, and full media control, Prophet Jerome’s rise reveals the silent collapse of religious accountability in Sri Lanka*.

He calls himself “Father Prophet.” His followers kneel before him. His building is called the “Miracle Dome.” And yet—he is not registered under any formal religious body in Sri Lanka.

This is not Christianity.
This is not faith.
This is unregulated ideological theatre, hiding behind religious language.

Who Is Jerome Fernando?

Jerome Fernando is the founder of The Glorious Church, a private charismatic movement claiming to be a Christian revival. In reality, it is a global-profit machine masquerading as faith, fueled by foreign-style prosperity gospel, staged miracles, celebrity worship, and paid spiritual access.

He preaches:
That he is anointed as a prophet

That giving money to his church leads to blessings and breakthroughs

That he has access to the mind of God, often declaring who will get healed, promoted, or delivered based on his “word”

Thousands follow him. But none ask: Who regulates this?

No Religious Registration. No Legal Oversight.

It has now been officially confirmed that:

The Miracle Dome in Katunayake is not registered as a place of worship

His church is not recognized by the Ministry of Religious Affairs

He has no formal affiliation with Catholic, Anglican, or traditional Christian bodies

He used a convention centre license to build a religious empire

This means:
Jerome Fernando operates as a private, unaccountable actor, collecting funds, hosting mass events, livestreaming miracles, and shaping minds—without any legal registration as a religious institution.

How Did We Get Here?

In 2023, Jerome insulted the Buddha during a sermon, declaring him someone “who could not find the way.” The backlash was national. He fled the country.
He returned quietly.
And today, he is bigger than ever.

Why? Because the government has no system to check religious fraud.
There is no vetting of doctrine, no audit of funding, and no consequence for preaching heresy or political manipulation under the veil of spirituality.

Jerome Fernando:
• Sells prophecy
• Stages emotion
• Commercializes worship
• Operates beyond the reach of law

And yet his reach spans into Parliament, police, and policy—silencing those who ask basic questions.

This Is Not Faith. This Is a Cult.

Let’s call it what it is:
• His followers call him “Papa” or “Lord’s Voice”
• His sermons are delivered like celebrity theatre
• His events feature luxury staging, security, ticketing, and premium seating
• Those who question him are labeled “rebellious against God”

This is cultic behavior, not Christian worship.

And worse: it threatens to erode real religious identity in Sri Lanka, pushing youth into fake spirituality driven by emotional hype and imported doctrine.

What Must Be Done Immediately
1. Demand full registration of all religious centers, including Jerome’s Glorious Church
2. Launch a full audit of land use, income streams, international donations, and personal asset declarations
3. Enforce disciplinary action against any state or media actor who shielded him despite ongoing investigations
4. Educate the public on how ideological cults use religion to control minds and create profit under spiritual branding

Final Word

Sri Lanka is not a testing ground for charismatic manipulation.
We are a nation of deep faith, real culture, and lawful tradition.

Let the world preach.
But let Sri Lanka enforce.
Because when prophets go unchecked, power becomes poison.
