‘Rata Next’ Organization Expresses Strong Disapproval Regarding Dilip Pieris’s Remarks in Court

The Rata Next Orgnizatipn has issued a strongly worded press release on Pieris’s degrading remarks on security forces in Sri Lanka.
Pointing out that such remarks by a senior official of the Attorney General’s Department cause serious damage to the dignity of the Tri-Forces and to the morale of soldiers, the organization calls on the Attorney General to immediately conduct a formal disciplinary inquiry into the devaluation of these national honors awarded by the President.
The media release issued by the ‘Rata Next’ organization is published below.
‘Rata Next’ Organization’s Strong Regret Regarding the Reported Remarks Made in Court on 01st July 2026
The ‘Rata Next’ organization expresses its deep regret and strong disapproval regarding the reported remarks made by Deputy Solicitor General Mr. Dilip Pieris during a court hearing on 01st July 2026, in which he referred to the war medals worn by retired Commissioned Officer Mr. Shantha Jayatilake as “metal pieces.”
As the ‘Rata Next’ organization, we strongly believe that every citizen living under the Sri Lankan flag must act in accordance with the law, and that upholding the rule of law is a fundamental value in a democratic society.
However, remarks that belittle the war medals awarded to members of the Sri Lanka Tri-Forces in recognition of their commitment, heroism, discipline and invaluable service to the nation are in no way acceptable. These medals are not mere pieces of metal. They are the highest national honors conferred by the President of Sri Lanka as representatives of the nation’s respect. Every single medal is a symbol that eternally reflects the honor, commitment and service of the soldier who wears it.
Such remarks can adversely affect not only the honor and dignity of serving and retired Tri-Forces members, but also the morale of current and future military officers and soldiers.
We especially express our strong disapproval of such remarks being reported from a senior executive officer of the Attorney General’s Department.
Accordingly, we respectfully request that the Attorney General’s Department conduct a fair and formal inquiry into this incident and take the disciplinary action deemed necessary. We also emphasize that it is the responsibility of every state institution to protect the honor of the Sri Lanka Tri-Forces, their commitment, and the dignity of the national honors conferred upon them.
