The OISL Report is Full of Lies – Marie Williams of GSLF

The President of Global Sri Lankan Forum  (GSLF) Kuwait branch, Ms. Marie Williams stated that the OISL Report co-sponsored by the Yahapalana government of Sri Lanka lead by pro-federalist Ranil and Sirisena is full of lies, contradictions and in general compromised the evidence.

Ms. Williams further said that the GSLF have filed documents in regard to this with the Council since March 2017 however there are no responses so far from the UNHRC.

Ms. Williams stated these facts during the general debate of the 39th session of the UNHRC in Geneva on 17th September 2018.

The full text of the speech delivered by Ms. Williams is as follows;

Mr. President,

Today we talk of promotion and protection of human rights including civil and political rights.  I bring to your attention, regrettably, a possible violation of the human rights of the people of Sri Lanka, especially the Sinhalese the majority ethnic group in the country, by the Human Rights Council.

I refer to the adoption of resolution 30/1 of October 2015.  That resolution was co-sponsored by the Government of Sri Lanka, but, the basis for the resolution—the OHCHR’s OISL report—was never subjected to debate or discussion at the Council prior to adoption of the resolution.

The OISL Report is full of lies, contradictions and in general compromised evidence.  I and my colleagues have filed documents in regard to this with the Council since March 2017 with no response so far.

The question is, ‘If in fact the OISL report is compromised, what remedies do Sri Lankans who consider themselves harmed as a result of resolution 30/1 have against the Council and the officials responsible for the OISL report?’  Are their human rights not worth protecting?  I urge the Council to adopt reforms that permit citizens aggrieved in situations such as this to hold the relevant UNHRC officials, and the Council itself, accountable.

Thank You.

Numbers of GSLF members from globally are speaking at the 39th session of the UNHRC from 11th to 28th Sep. 2018 to emphasize the case that the OISL report prepared by the panel appointed by the UNHRC is full of lies, contradictions and in general compromised the evidence in favour of the LTTE Tamil terrorists.
