Commence UN Investigation on Funding LTTE Terrorists- World Sri Lanka Association at Geneva

The World Sri Lankan Association held a press briefing inside the UN press club in Geneva today to brief the international media about the current human rights situation and the concerns on Resolution 30/1.
This is the first time such a brief is allowed for a non state group inside the UN press club.
Representing the World Sri Lankan Association, Dr Nalaka Godahewa, Dr Pathiba Mahanama and Prof Mahmet Guzel briefed the media while Nimala Liyanapatabadhi, Roshan Weerapura, Madhushan Harindra and Aruna Warushaheennadige also participated in the discussion that followed.
The main argument put forward by the Sri Lankan team was that by initiating Resolution 30/1 UNHRC has missed out on its obligations under the ‘Global counter-terrorism strategy’ of UN. They pointed out that the real necessity at that time was an internatıonal investigation on the terrorist financing so that the perpetrators who fınanced terrorism could have been held accountable for 3 decades of violence against humanity.
The team urged the UNHRC to initiate an investigation into the financiers of LTTE under the Global Counter Terrorism Strategy of UN at least now.
