Unfair Arresting and Harassing of Sinhalese in Sri Lanka Complaint to UNHRC by GSLF

The recent unfair arrest of hundreds of Sinhalese by the Government of Sri Lanka and harassing of Sinhala Buddhists by the pro-LTTE Tamil terrorists extremists in the Northern Provincial Council and members of Pro-LTTE Tamil political party TNA were compliant to the UNHRC in Geneva by the Global Sri Lankan Forum (GSLF) during the general assembly public speeches on 26th Sep. 2018.

GSLF member Ms. Vinoma Collom-Hawcroft highlighted this gross unfair treatment to the ethnic majority Sinhalese in Sri Lanka

Mr. President

We are deeply concerned with the UNHRC’s blind eye on the violations of Human Rights of Sinhaleas in Sri Lanka by the Government and Northern Provincial Council under the guise of reconciliation.

Amith Weerasinghe, a Rights Activists and over 100 Sinhalese were arrested under the International Convention on Civil and Political Rights Act (ICRP) which requires a special determination by the high Court to grant bail.

However, for the same incident Muslims were arrested under the general law and released on bail within days.

Sinhalese are under remand custody over six months by now.

The Chief Minister of Northern Province led by the pro-LTTE TNA recently passed a resolution imposing a total ban on Sinhalese people to the Northern Province.

No construction or development of Buddhist temples will be allowed in the Northern Province of Sri Lanka by TNA lead Provincial Council.

A gang of Tamil thugs led by Northern Provincial Council Minister of Fisheries; Raviharan burnt boats and huts owned by Sinhala fishermen in Nayaru and Kokilai.

Ancient Buddhist archeological sites in Kilinochchi and Kurundan-kulama were destroyed by the order of TNA Parliamentarian; Sri Dharan in order to prove that there was no Sinhalese in Northern Sri Lanka.

These actions, no doubt constitute a violation of right to movement, employment and cultural heritage of Sinhalese leading to a mono ethnic racist Tamil separatism.

This systematic and targeted attack on Sinhalese is not more than ethnic cleansing and this Council shall prosecute the leaders of pro-LTTE terrorists TNA for genocides.
