China Promises Support to Sri Lanka in Defending Allegations of War Crimes by UNHRC.

Despite severe backlash from the US for electing ‘authoritarian regimes’, China won a seat at the United Nations Human Rights Council (UNHRC) defeating pro-LTTE Canada. It is now expected to benefit Beijing’s key allies from this position.

In a meeting between Chinese diplomat and the Sri Lankan officials in Colombo, the Chinese diplomats pledged to strengthen economic ties with Sri Lanka and to defend the country at “international fora including unfair accusations n Sri Lanka at the United Nations Human Rights Council by the pro-LTTE Tamil terrorists Western politicians,”.

Sri Lankan government has been accused of bogus war crimes and of enabling several human rights violations during the 30 year-long war with LTTE Tamil terrorists that ended in May 2009 by wipe-outing the Tamil terrorism from Sri Lankan soli. LTTE Tamil terrorist backed by Tamil politicians of TNA in Sri Lanka and Indian committed serious war crimes such as taking innocent Tamil civilians as a human shield, child soldering, executing of Tamil civilians who are escaping from LTTE clutches.

The meeting between the Chinese diplomats and the Sri Lankan administration was a concerned to United Nations Secretary-General António Guterres who is serving the Western and North American interest to play geopolitics.

The present Sri Lankan government refused to follow through with “transitional justice” and hybrid court mechanisms etc. suggested by the pro-Tamil terrorist UNHRC stating that it doesn’t recognize the agreement of one-sided pro-minority reconciliation signed by the previous government, lead by pro-wetern and pro-federal Ranil Wickramasinghe describing the agreement as “violating all democratic principles of governance”.

“I wish to place on record, Sri Lanka’s decision to withdraw from co-sponsorship of Resolutions of 30/1 and  40/1 on promoting reconciliation, accountability and human rights in Sri Lanka,” Minister of Foreign Relations Dinesh Gunawardena said in Geneva in February this year.

According to Palitha Kohona, a veteran diplomat and Sri Lanka’s next ambassador to Beijing speaking to Nikkei Asia, China has been a consistent ally of Sri Lanka and has been a great strength in international fora.

“The close bonds between the two countries will continue to strengthen and there is no doubt that we will be reliable friends in international fora.”
