Clinton defeat: blessing for Sri Lanka

These last few days, most news media are all about the US presidential election, and still moaning about Hillary Clinton’s defeat; smartly stumped by President Elect Donald Trump. As for me, I hoped that Hillary Clinton would not win, only because of her hatred of Sri Lanka as was evident from the leaked emails ‘CLINTON BLOCKED IMF AGREED ASSISTANCE TO SRI LANKA” when it had been increasingly clear that Sri Lankan troops were about to crush the LTTE Tamil terror group, published in another newspaper, the details of which I wrote in a letter published on 3rd October in The Island.

As Secretary of State, Hillary Clinton never visited Sri Lanka but breezed in like a hurricane to meet Tamil Nadu Chief Minster Jayalalithaa. I do not know what they discussed, but with two Sri Lanka haters, the topic could be conjectured – Could we make this another Libya!

Anyway, the unseen guardian forces of Sri Lanka sent her back! If she had come to power, I shudder to think about the future of Sri Lanka Security Forces as per the UNHRC resolution sponsored by the US in the UNHRC. If proper representation is now made to Donald Trump, he may withdraw this resolution and even dissolve the UNHRC as an unnecessary UN expenditure.
