‘Country moving backwards after Ranil’
With the defeat of former President Mahinda Rajapaksa the country is moving backwards, Sri Jayawardenapura University senior lecturer Ven. Medagoda Abhayatissa thera said.
Under the so called good governance the gap between communities are widening day by day instead of strengthening the ethnic bonds and harmony, Ven Abhayatissa thera added.
The thera was addressing the media at a seminar at the Sunethra Mahadevi Pirivena, Pepiliyana yesterday. The seminar was organised under the theme “Peradune Mahindada Ratada” (Is Mahinda or the Country that was defeated?) aiming to make people aware of the post election consequences that has resulted with the defeat of Mahinda Rajapaksa.
The era that began from January 9, has witnessed a series of incidents of cheating and fraud. Most of the promises made during the last Presidential Election are being broken by the Yahapalana Aanduwa, the Thera stressed.
As the result of the defeat the gap between communities were widening day by day. This is not an issue with Mahinda, Sirisena or Ranil but an issue that has to do with ethnic harmony and the division of the country, the thera added
.
Ven. Medagama Dammarathana Thera said a conspiracy is being hatched to change the constitution. “Constitutional changes should not be done overnight but through a through a proper mechanism,” he said.
The thera added that people cannot be cheated by giving coriander or dhal cheaply.

“We have to identify the challenges we face with the political change,” he added.
The thera stressed that the motherland, which was protected with much dedication and devotion cannot be betrayed.
Prof Ven. Magammana Pangnananda thera said that no one can accept the decision to shrink the military occupied land. This is a not a simple thing but one that concerns national security.
