Human rights situations that require the Council’s attention. – Eric Makkawita , Co-president of GSLF

The Co-president of Global Sri Lankan Forum, GSLF told UNHRC that the Human Right Council should look at Sri Lanka in a different eye in the way Sri Lankan forces saved the lives of hundreds of thousands of Tamil civilians from ruthless LTTE Tamil terrorist’s human shield. Makkawita stated these matters while addressing the UNHRC session.

The full text of the speech of Makkawita is as follows.

Just after 1 week of the historical military defeat of the world most ruthless terrorist organization, Tamil Tigers in Sri lanka, this council passed a resolution in favour by 29 to 12 with 6 abstentions.

While appreciating the effort in defeating the terror, this council went on Condemning all attacks that the Liberation Tigers of Tamil Eelam launched on the civilian population and its practice of using civilians as human shields, Further, commended  the defeating of terrorism and the liberation of tens of thousands of Tamil innocent people that were kept by the LTTE  terrorists against their will as hostages, as well as the efforts by the Government to ensure the safety and security of all Sri Lankans and to bring permanent peace to the country.

Mr. President, that is how this council recognized the magnitude of the victory and its dedicated, determined and historical efforts spearheaded by its heroic armed forces and its people, for the success of the biggest ever-humanitarian rescue operation.

After 30 years of suffering in the hands of ruthless separatist terrorism, Sri Lanka has continued to be victimized alleged human right violations built upon lies and false allegations.

As contained in Articles 1 and 2 of the UN Charter which specify the principle of non-interference in matters that are essentially within the domestic jurisdiction of States.”

We as peace loving Sri Lankans, urge Hon. High Commissioner for human rights to respect UN Charter and not to interfere internal affairs of a sovereign country, Sri Lanka.

I thank you president
