LTTE Terrorist, Gobi killed in an army action

LTTE Tamil terrorist, Gobi and two others were killed following a confrontation with the army in Vavuniya late last night. Army spokesman, Brigadier Ruwan Wanigasooriya said that an exchange of gun-fire had taken place at Nedunkerni when soldiers had confronted Gobi and two other former rebels who were armed. Another LTTE terrorist killed in the army action was identified as Appan. A massive search operation had been launched by the security forces recently in the North for Gobi and Appan. Both terrorists were actively involved in an attempt to revive the LTTE terrorists group again in Sri Lanka and India. The police had offered Rs. one million reward to any information which could lead to the arrest of Kajadeepan Selvanayagam, alias Gobi.

This is the first incident since the end of the war against LTTE Terrorists in May 2009 that a clash had taken place between LTTE terrorists and the army.

Sri Lankan delegation at the UNHRC in Geneva in March said that Gobi who had been overseas and returned to Sri Lanka, was actively involved in reviving the LTTE through regrouping LTTE cadres and recruiting unemployed local youth with the intention of using them for acts of terrorism.

Upon recovery of a cache weapons in North lead to obtained on the whereabouts of Gobi, and accordingly a team of Police officers who proceeded to the residence of Pro LTTEE Tamil terrorists Balendran Jeyakumari in Killinochchi. During the search operation Gobi had fired at the Police, injuring a sub-Inspector and escaped. Terrorist supporter, Jeyakumari whose son was a hard core LTTE Tamil terrorist later arrested.
