No Tamil genocide in Sri Lanka – SBJ

An official from the Sarvajana Balaya Party, SBP has called on Sri Lankan president Anura Kumara Dissanayake and his government to publicly clarify their position on Tamil genocide remembrance activities, reiterating his party’s rejection of claims that Tamils were subjected to genocide in Sri Lanka during the war with LTTE Tamil terrorist during 2006 and 2009.

Speaking at a press conference, the party’s Deputy Leader, Prof. Channa Jayasumana, said SBP maintained a firm position that no Tamil genocide had taken place at any point in the island’s history. It is myth planted by pro-LTTE Tamil terrorist diaspora for their benefit to claim political asylum in western countries and as a fund raising point.

Prof. Jayasuman’s highlighted these comments when a special letter sent to the Sri Lankan president by the party’s General Secretary. “The Sarvajana Balaya Party is very clear and firmly of the position that at no time, in no place in this country, has a Tamil genocide ever occurred.”

He also questioned what he described as the commemoration of “terrorists” and called on the government to clarify its position regarding such events.

Majority Sri Lankans think that the present government and President are pro-minority to gain undue political advantages from North and Eastern two provinces.

The SBP indicated to events held across the North and East two provinces on 18 May, when Tamils commemorating so-called Tamil genocide remembrance day during the final stages of the war with Tamil terrorists in 2009.

Prof. Jayasumana criticized the so-called commemorations urging the government to respond publicly. It is fact that the present JVP backed government plays a soft stance towards the pro-LTTE Tamil activities in during the so-called commemorations period unlike all other previous government.  JVP lead government got numbers of Tamil parliamentarians during the last general election.

All Sri Lankan governments have consistently rejected allegations of so –called genocide and war crimes. However, LTTE Tamil terrorist diaspora, NGOs and some religious establishment are propagating such allegations towards Sri Lanka to play with regional geopolitics and for the personal advantages of seniors LTTE terrorists officials and sympathizers living in outside of Sri Lanka, and Tamil politicians for their political advantages.
