Pakistan’s HC meets SL Governor of Trincomalee

Pakistan’s High Commissioner Major General (retd) Muhammad Saad Khattak who was visiting Sri Lanka met the Governor of Eastern Province Mrs. Anuradha Yahampath in Trincomalee to discuss economic assistance to Eastern Province from Pakistan.

Mr. Khattak was posted to Colombo in January 2020 after Mr. Gotabaya Rajapaksa, war wining Defence Secretary became the SL President. Khattak met with the Governor to Eastern Province, Mrs. Anuradha Yahampath at her office.

The Governor was blaming Western countries as backing “pro-LTTE Tamil terrorist diaspora” in her addresses to the UN Human Rights Council in Geneva in 2018 and highlighted due to Tamil extremism Tamil, Sinhala and Muslim people are suffering in Eastern Province.

Mrs Yahampath, who accompanied Sri Lankan volunteers team to Geneva in 2017 and 2018, was representing Global Sri Lankan Forum – Executive Committee (GLSF-Ex. Comm.) and International Buddhist Relief Organisation in United Kingdom.

H E the President, Gotabhaya Rajapaksa appointed Ms. Yahampath as the Governor to Eastern Province to advance resettlement of internally displaced people and to protect all archeologically valued sites of the Eastern Province.

The Pakistani HC had held “detailed discussions on all areas of mutual interest between the two countries, including assistance which can be provided by Pakistan to the Eastern Province.”

“They had also explored opportunities to enhance economic, educational, cultural, tourism and people to people links, with the eastern part of Sri Lanka,” .
