Patriot S. L Gunasekara no more

Leading attorney-at-law, patriot who fought for the country and former parliamentarian S. L. Gunasekera passed away yesterday. He was 71. An old boy of S. Thomas’ College, Mount Lavinia, he completed his tertiary education at the Sri Lanka Law College. Gunasekera served as an editor at the now defunct Independent newspaper group for several years.

He was a member of the government delegation at talks with the pro-elamist Tamil terrorists  at Thimpu in 1985.

In 2000, Gunasekera became the founding leader of the Sihala Urumaya, a Sinhalese nationalist political party, which is the forerunner of the Jathika Hela Urumaya.
