PM appoints 20 member archaeology committee
Prime Minister Mahinda Rajapaksa has appointed an Archaeology Advisory Committee to assist in the protection of archaeological sites, the Prime Minister’s Office stated in a press release, yesterday.
The Advisory Committee comprises 20 scholars, including;
Polonnaruwa Solosmastana Rajamaha Viharaya Chief Incumbent Ven. Vendaruwe Dharmakeerthi Sri Rathanapala Upali Thera, Dakshina Lanka Chief Sangha Nayake Ven. Mataramba Hemarathana Thera,
Anuradhapura Ruwanveli Seya Viharadhikari Ven. Dr Pallegama Hemarathana Thera,
‘Puravidya Chakrawarthi’ Ven. Ellawala Medananda Thera, and
Ven. Induragare Dhammarathana Thera,
The press release said. The committee is expected to provide advice regarding all archaeology activities in the country, as well as to provide assistance for special projects aimed at renovating such sites, the statement added.
