President advises police not to drag cases against military personnel – Yahapalanaya opened eyes.

President Maithripala Sirisena said yesterday that if there were so called allegations against any military personnel, the Police should expeditiously file legal action , without arresting and subjecting them to long periods of detention and without harnessing the war heroes.

Ministerial Sources said that the President addressing a Special Cabinet Meeting at the Presidential Secretariat , in the absence of Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe who is anti-Sri Lankan government forces and steered to sponsor a UN Resolution against the war heroes , had said that long delays in investigations, after taking military personnel into custody, could turn into a “Political issue and National Issue” soon.

The Police , he stressed should ensure that the detention period , was kept to a minimum..

Srisena had specifically mentioned the arrest of military personnel in connection with the abduction and disappearance of 11 Pro-LTTEers in Colombo, in 2007 and 2008, sources said
