Pro-LTTE Academics in University of Jaffna to hold Remembrance of LTTE Tamil Terrorists
The Terrorist Investigations Department has issued written notice on a Jaffna university academics, to appear in Colombo for an inquiry over the planned remembrance ceremony for LTTE Tamil terrorist killed in the war. The notice followed a discussion between representatives of the Jaffna University and SLA in Palaly where the academics were asked to cancel their banned Tamil terrorists memorial event on grounds that it was a violation of the Prevention of Terrorism Act.
An academic of the University A. Rasakumaran has been ordered to appear before the TID. The Police Spokesman SSP Ajith Rohana said the academics had been summoned to record a statement based on an ongoing investigation of pro-LTTE Tamil terrorists activities in the Northern region as well.
Ahead of Victory Day celebrations in Matara last Sunday, the military banned public memorials for LTTE Tamil terrorists killed during the war. The Jaffna University was also closed between 16th – 20th May, coinciding with the Victory Day celebrations in the South.
Pro- LTTE University academics had organised a memorial event in Jaffna at 11 a.m. today, three days after Victory Day celebration by the Sri Lankan public.
