Pro-LTTE TNA to submit affidavits to SC affirming they are for unitary Sri Lanka
The TNA will submit affidavits to the Supreme Court affirming that they stand for a unitary Sri Lanka.
Counsel, K. Kanag Ishwaran P.C. and M. A. Sumanthiran, who appeared for TNA office bearers made respondents in several fundamental rights violation petitions to the Court, said yesterday that their clients would submit affidavits before July 23, the next date of calling of these petitions.
The affidavits will explain that the TNA stands for a unitary Sri Lanka as stated in the country’s Constitution.
The petitioners are Venerable Bengamuwe Nalaka Thera, Dr. Gunadasa Amerasekera and four others. These petitioners have said that the TNA election manifesto in the Northern Province was against the Constitution of Sri Lanka. The TNA was for a separate state in the North.
Counsel Kanishka Vitharana, Palitha Gamage and Kapila Gamage, appeared for the petitioners.
Deputy Solicitor General, Nerin Pulle appeared for the Attorney General.
The bench comprised Chief Justice Mohan Pieris, Justice Rohini Marasinghe and Justice Buwenaka Aluwihara.
