Proportional Electoral System Should be Replaced
The Proportional Electoral System should be replaced enabling the voters in the respective electorates to elect a member who is accountable for them, said Leader of the House and Foreign Minister Dinesh Gunawardane. He said the present government led by President Gotabaya Rajapaksa has already paid its attention in this regard.
According to the minister, the members of parliament elected under the present proportional system have no better understanding on those who voted them or their whereabouts.
This is an injustice caused to the voters as they are unable to get the support from their representative for the development of the respective localities, he added.
It is a known fact that because of current Election system there is a tendency to depend of minority racist and extremist political parties to form a government. This is a great unjust for the majority Sinhalese who got more seats in the parliament but need to go after Tamils and Muslims to form a government.
It is also bring that old law of that each party shall take min. of 12% of votes as it was before changed by then President Premadasa who is responsible of lives 750 policemen, to get support Muslim parties with Ashraf.
Premadada family done a massive damage to Sri Lankan history during their ruling time. Premadada is also responsible for killing of over 65,000 Sinhala Buddhists youth during 1988 to 1990.
