Racist Tamils Attempt to Vandalise Buddhist Temple in Trincomalee

A group politically motivated racist Tamils activists have attempted vandalise the ancient Buddhist Temple in Periyakulama village in eastern Trincomalee District.

Upon timely informing the police a few extremist Tamils have been arrested and remanded. The leader of the Tamils extremists’ group was reportedly filming the construction site of the Buddhist temple at Periyakulama junction and tried to enter the temple premises by force. This unruly act of Tamils has been escalated into a heated exchange with the administration of the temple during which the chief mock of the temple has informed the police.

Upon the monk filed a complaint with the Sri Lankan police in Nilaveli, a few extremist pro-LTTE Tamils had been arrested and produced before a magistrate, who ordered the remand.

The renovation of the Buddhist temple at Periyakulama has been going since 2023.
