Separatist SLMC and Pro-LTTE TNA to boost Ranil’s campaign
The SLMC who are demanding a separate administrative district in Eastern and pro-LTTE Tamil terrorists TNA has unanimously decided to support pro-federalist Ranil during the general election. The SLMC refrained from fielding a Muslim candidate on the UNP nomination list for the Colombo electoral district in a bid to garner the support of the entire community to Ranil as per the pact signed between UNP and SLMC to get a separate administrative district in Eastern province in Sri Lanka.
The SLMC switched its allegiance to the then SLFP General Secretary Maithripala Sirisena just weeks before the January 8, 2015, presidential poll when Mahinda rajapakse flatly rejected SLMC leader Hakeem’s demand for a separate administrative district in Eastern province for which Mithreepala and Ranil agreed upon.. The SLMC contested the April 2010 general election on the UNP ticket, though it subsequently switched sides to vote for the 18th Amendment to the Constitution as SMLC inherently doing with each government.
Pro-LTTE terrorists TNA said that the minority vote would largely go to the pro-federalism UNP in the northern and eastern electoral districts.
Ranil Wickramasinghe has already stated during the opening of the election campaign that if he came to power he will grant the maximum devolutions of powers to North and East two provinces beyond the 13th Amendment which rejected by the majority Sinhala voters.
