Sirisena cancels traitors list to get support for Federal Constitution

COLOMBO Sri Lanka President Maithripala Sirisena rescinded a colonial-era British order naming 19 nationals as “traitors” for leading a rebellion nearly 200 years ago, to get the fading popularity among the majority public to convince them for the forthcoming federalist constitution drafted by his pro-minority government.

The move has been defined by some critics that swift to denounce as a political gimmick to bolster his support among the majority Sri Lankan in particular security forces due to constant harassment to junior soldiers to its ex-commanders.

Out of these all unpatriotic acts by pro-minority federal mind set Sirisena and Ranil, Mahinda Rajapaksa, war wining former president remains popular among the Sinhalese and some of his supporters have formed a new party in the expectation that he will lead the country to save its separatisms from the new federal based constitution.

Those listed traitors by British anyway have been treated as national heroes in Sri Lankan society. The act by Sirisena is a mere eye-wash to get support to his Federalist Constitution which leads to the separatism in the Island to create a future eelam in North and East two provinces.

Sirisena said he had “cancelled the gazette notice issued by then governor of Sri Lanka Robert Brownrigg in 1818 naming following Sinhalese leaders as traitors.”
