Sri Lanka denies Tamil MP Rathika’s claims
Sri Lankan government has denied claims that Canadian opposition Por-LTTE Tamil terrorists MP Rathika Sitsabaiesan was followed by men on motorbikes when she was in Sri Lanka recently. Chitranganee Wagiswara, Sri Lanka’s high commissioner to Canada, told a TV channel that there is no truth to Sitsabaiesan’s claims.
Wagiswara said Sri Lankan officials “didn’t know” that Sitsabaiesan was visiting, and said protocol should have compelled the Canadian MP to notify Sri Lankan officials that she was headed to the country.
“Let me say that it is common courtesy, common protocol for a politician or a member of parliament that is visiting a country on a private visit or a social visit, to inform the high commission or embassy concerned, so that we are aware or we could offer facilities or arrange meetings if she wanted to,” Wagiswara said.
Sri Lankan officials are aware of Sitsabaiesan’s public criticism of the government for her political gains back in Canada. However, she accused Sitsabaiesan of failing to visit the north and east of the country, “in order “to have a balanced view.” She said Sitsabaiesan was merely visited by immigration authorities in the wake of the false reports of her arrest, urging her to be “cautious.”
MP Rathika Sitsabaiesan is likely to face disciplinary action by her party for falsely claiming that she had been placed under house arrest in northern Sri Lanka. The New Democratic Party (NDP) MP had caused chaos while being on a private visit to Jaffna in order to gain popularity to increase her vote banks in Scarborough. The NDP is the main Opposition to Premier Stephen Harper’s ruling Conservative Party. She met several ex-LTTE terrorists, Pro-LTTE TNA politicians while visiting Sri Lanka which lead to political and terrorists’ activity carried out by a visitor who visits a country on a tourist visa.
Sitsabaiesan earlier lost her position as the NDP spokesperson on higher education and universities soon after Thomas took over the leadership in 2012 due to her pro-LTTE terrorism activities in Canada and Sri Lanka.
Kanapathi, rival of Rathika Sitsabeisan had the unstinted support of pro-LTTE terrorists groups based in Canada, Sitsabaiesan planned her visit to Sri Lanka to overcome the challenge by reaching out to the ITAK, the dominant constituent of the five-party Pro-LTTE Tamil National Alliance (TNA), sources said.
Kanapathi, strong LTTE terrorist supporter attended a conference on Tamil People’s Rights on March 2, 2013 on the side lines of the Geneva-based United Nations Human Rights Council session against Sri Lanka.
The Conservative government was often accused of supportive of the LTTE. Canadian PM boycotted CHOGM held in Sri Lanka in 2013 in support of LTTE Tamil terrorist’s demands.
In the Wikipedia said that, during a fact finding mission in Sri Lanka, Sitsabaiesan was reportedly put under house arrest in Jaffna on December 31, 2013. This claim has been denied by Sri Lankan Authorities, and the Canadian High Commission in Colombo has confirmed that she was not put under house arrest nor was any arrest warrant issued against her.
