Sri Lankan Public Protest Against One Sided Resolution at UN

Patriotic Sri Lankan  protestors marched to the UN Headquarters in Colombo to hand over a petition to UN Secretary General Ban Ki-moon, against the US sponsored resolution on Sri Lanka at the Human Rights Council this month in Geneva.

The prominent monks, led by Ven. Elle Gunawansa Thero, Ven. Bengamuve Nalaka Thero and other religious leader from Muslim, and Hindu  handed over the petition to UN staff in Colombo.

The petition that was addressed to the UN Secretary General, said the resolution was a result of dissemination of lies concocted by pro-LTTE Tamil terrorist elements internationally.

“Don’t violate our national rights in the guise of protecting human rights,” placards held by the demonstrators at yesterday’s rally said.

The UN compound was barricaded by a contingent of police personnel during the demonstration.

The general perception of the Sri Lankans is that UN is playing a double standing role unfairly for smaller countries and African countries while keeping blind eye for the human right violations by US and EU countries.
