The Nation’s Yashorawa Dr. Nanda Malini Ends Her Life’s Journey

No funeral speeches as per her wish.

Final rites on Saturday at 5 pm at Borella General Cemetery.

Veteran singer Visharada Nanda Malini, who for decades reigned as the queen of the country’s music field as the Nightingale of the Nation and the Yashorawa of the Nation, passed away today (20).

She was 82 years old at the time of her death.

She passed away at her home in the Nawala area.

Mrs. Nanda Malini, who was born on August 23, 1943, in the Lewanduwa area of Aluthgama, displayed her singing talents from a young age.

Coming to the Kotahena area of Colombo in her adolescence, she was admitted to Sri Gunananda Vidyalaya, and under the guidance of teachers who recognized her singing talent there, she got the opportunity to enter the field of music.

A teacher who recognized her talent at a poetry competition introduced Mrs. Nanda Malini to the then-popular radio program “Lama Mandapaya” of the Sri Lanka Broadcasting Corporation, which was hosted by Mr. Karunaratne Abeysekera.

Her music career opened a new path with the immense popularity of the song “Budu Sadhu” she sang there.

The remains of Dr. Nanda Malini will be placed at the Nanda Malini Sangeeth Ashramaya located at her home on Vijaya Ba Mawatha, Nawala Road, from 10:00 am tomorrow (21) for public respects.

She has requested that her body not be kept outside the house.

The final rites will be held on Saturday (22), and the body will be taken from the house at 3:30 pm and the final rites will be held at 5:00 pm at the Borella General Cemetery.

According to her last wish, everything will be simple. The final rites are scheduled to be held without any funeral meetings or speeches.

We pray that she may attain the supreme bliss of Nibbana
