Vesak celebrations in Jaffna

A seven day long Buddhist Vesak celebrations conducted in Jaffna by Tamil Buddhists supported by the members of the security forces, civil society groups and public. The entire Jaffna city had been transformed to Vesak Zone for the celebrations.

Grand scale Vesak celebrations were being staged in all part of the city with Thorana, Vesak lanterns and dan-sela and in all other towns in the Northern province.

The Sinhala students at the university of Jaffna also organized grand scale Vesak celebrations within the university premises despite of threating to sabotage by Tamil extremist and Pro-LTTE TNA politicians and politically motivated extremist’s Tamil undergraduates in the University which is notoriously famous for the breeding ground for the Tamil terrorism. At one stage, the administrators of the Jaffna University obstructed to forming of Buddhist Society in the University.
