World Alliance for Peace in Sri Lanka condemning the attempts to expose Intelligence Officers
The patriotic Sri Lankan global forum; World Alliance for Peace in Sri Lanka (WAPS) has strongly condemned the undermining of Sri Lankan security forces, in particular the intelligent wing of the army who played a vital role in the war against LTTE Tamil terrorists by the some section of politicians. In their media released by WAPS state that the officers and the staff of the national intelligence services have played an important role in the war against the LTTE terrorism at the risk of their lives. They provided very important information for the defence forces as well as the civilian organizations to withstand the onslaught of the terrorist LTTE.
It further highlighted that in the post war period of consolidating the peace and the prosperity enjoyed by the 20 million ordinary citizens the national intelligence play a crucial role in identifying the subversive elements and vitally important information gathering including taking action to counter the moves to destabilize the nation through collection of arms, money laundering etc.
Security forces played a strategic role in the recent revival effort made by LTTE Tamil terrorists collaboration with some sectors of Tamil politicians in Sri Lanka and Tamilnadu and with the support of pro-LTTE diaspora living in EU, US and Canada.
The full text of the press release by WAPS is as follows;

WE CONDEMN THE EFFORTS TO EXPOSE THE NAMES OF THE STAFF MEMBERS WORKING FOR THE COUNTRY’S INTELIGENCE SERVICES.
We are shocked to hear the attempts by a group of politicians in Sri Lanka for their political expediency to reveal the names of the officers and staff working for the national security intelligence, We earnestly request these misguided politicians to protect the State secret information for the good of the people in Sri Lanka rather than looking out for political point scoring.
The officers and the staff of the national intelligence services have played an important role in the war against the LTTE terrorism at the risk of their lives. We have had a nasty experience in the raid of Millennium city raid where again it was put into operation due to short term political gain. When the names of the officers manning the project was named publicly the episode ended by the officers having to pay the supreme price. The critical information on the LLRC was made known in public and the LTTE hunted down 44 officers and killed them mercilessly. It was indeed a pathetic story of a politically motivated effort resulting in destroying the eyes and the ears of national security and demotivating the officers and the staff who practically spend a good part of their lives in protecting the Nation.
We should consider the issue of the National Security to be above day to day politics especially when Sri Lanka has to withstand a questionable and a baseless UNHRC investigation and has to keep her eyes and ears open to avoid the creation of “political springs” of different hues to pave the way to rob the citizens of the gains enjoyed by them for last 4 years.
We request again all the politicians to play the game avoiding the hits below belt and upholding the crucial importance of the National Security at all times. We also request the Government to consider introducing urgent legislation to protect the National Security and the staff appropriately,
