Dr. Godadahewa resents 4-country communiqué on SL
The joint communiqué issued by the four countries, Germany, Britain, Macedonia, and Montegro pertaining to Sri Lanka, which was tabled before the UN Human Rights Council at its ongoing 39th session, was resented by Dr. Nalaka Godahewa at the conference held in Muscat, Oman on the 14 September. This conference which was organized by ‘Jagath Sri Lanka Ekamuthuwa’ (JSLE) was attended by a large number of Sri Lankans living in Oman.
According to Godahewa, the communiqué of 11 September is a strong testimony that the international community is continuously interfering with the internal affairs of SL.
The notification states, it is pleased that the new government is consistently acting in consensus with the UN organization since 2015 when taking decisions pertaining to national reconciliation and peace, as well as the establishment of an office with regard to the missing persons.
Besides the commitment of the new government to expedite the programme of returning the lands of the civilians to them from the forces more and more, is also appreciated. However, the Government should take immediate steps to pay compensation to those who suffered during the war, the communiqué adds. In addition, these countries have drawn attention to the undernoted promises made by the SL government.
Based on the Geneva resolution 30/1 of 2015, a dependable methodology to be put in place to build faith among the minorities; the abolition of the Prevention of Terrorist Act; and the devolution of powers via a Constitutional amendment.
Godahewa questioned whether there is room for anybody to interfere in the affairs of a sovereign country. Godahewa recalled the Geneva resolution 30/1 was tabled by America, and pointed out America follows a diametrically different policy with regard to its war heroes. He reported John Bolton, security advisor of Donald Trump as saying that if the UN questions their war heroes, a good lesson will be taught to the international courts which are being run with the patronage of the UN, and financial assistance to the courts will be halted and those judges shall not be allowed to enter America. Moreover, if there are assets of those judges in America, those too will be confiscated, and America will not recognize the UN international courts. It is the laws of America which will prevail, and America is not prepared to accept any advice which is above the country’s laws”.
Godahewa questioned as to why Sri Lanka couldn’t act in a similar manner.
