GSLF to Address UN Resolution and Counter-Terrorism in Geneva

The campaign in UNHRC is led by the Global Sri Lankan Forum. The GSLF has already conducted a seminar on the topic titled “In Defence of the Armed Forces of Sri Lanka”. In this seminar, the GSLF discredited the OISL report prepared by the UNHRC against Sri Lanka. The speakers in the seminar exposed the double standards played by the panel which compiled the one-sided OISL report to the UNHRC. In particular, the speakers address the allegations made against Sri Lanka under the International Humanitarian Law (IHL).

Ajantha Premarathna, the Project Coordinators of the GSLF, addressed the allegation on the impact of hostilities on civilians and civilian objects and proved that there were  not 40,000 deaths of civilians in Sri Lanka by indiscriminate shelling of civilians in the no fire zone, and logically and factually substantiated that there was no shelling of  hospitals. Premarathna explained how LTTE killed the Tamil civilians by using them as human shields while so-called human rights champions and Tamil diaspora kept quiet on the human shields mobilized by the LTTE Tamil terrorists. Majority of deaths were LTTE terrorists, while few civilians would have been killed due to the cross fire. However, there was no intentional killing of Tamil civilians by the Sri Lankan forces.

Suminda Ranathunga, Secretary of GSLF-Ireland disproved the denial of humanitarian assistance to civilians in the conflict-zone. Ranathunga classically justified how the Sri Lanka government took efforts to supply the humanitarian assistances and supply food continuously to the Tamil civilians while LTTE Tamil terrorists blocked such supplies or took them away to feed themselves.  He emphasized his point by using the documentary evidence from the report issued by the Consultative Committee on Humanitarian Assistance and the report of the Committee Appointed to Study the US Department of State during the conflict in Sri Lanka.

Another allegation of the unlawful killings of arrested Tamil terrorists was comprehensively defended by Jayaraj Palihawadana – the Secretary of GSLF-UK, who moderated the seminar held in the UNHRC conference hall on 13th September 2018.  Palihawadana, an attorney in profession, explained the alleged incidents of white flags in which number of high ranking Tamil terrorists were believe to be killed, the killing of the son of the Tamil terrorists’ leader Prabakaran, the killing of LTTE Eastern Province commander Ramesh, and the killing of Isaipriya, a  LTTE Terrorists’ TV presenter, and proved that there was no evidence beyond any reasonable doubt to prosecute the Sri Lankan armed forces for these killings.

The invitee guest speaker, Professor Dr. Mehmet Sukru Guzel explained the double standards of the UNHRC towards Sri Lanka compared to other similar international geopolitical incidents.   Dr. Guzel was nominated for the Nobel Prize in 2014.  He is currently working as an advocate to the countries which have been ill-treated by the UN Human Rights Council.

Two more seminars will be conducted by the GSLF on 20th and 26th September in the UNHRC in Geneva and the GSLF will elaborate the unfair calls by the UNHRC towards Sri Lanka.
