Global Sri Lankan Forum and Maha Sangha Voice at the Court Against Conspiracy to Blame for Easter on Sinhala Buddhists

The Global Sri Lankan Forum, GSLF expresses its strong disgust and opposition to the notorious attempts by certain parties to place the full responsibility for the horrific Easter Sunday terrorist attack carried out by ISIS Islamic extremist terrorists on the Sinhala Buddhist people.

The GSLF emphasizes that the political witch-hunt launched by extremist groups in the political, religious and civil spheres, targeting war heroes who rendered exceptional service to the country such as retired Major General Suresh Sale, must be stopped immediately.

The Forum directly alleges that behind the attempt to make Mr. Sale a political scapegoat through the ongoing investigations under the Prevention of Terrorism Act while he is being detained in the custody of the Criminal Investigation Department, are Malcolm Cardinal Ranjith, Shani Abeysekara, Ravi Seneviratne, Dilip Peiris, and Anura Kumara Dissanayake by misusing the PTA provisions.

The Executive Director of the Global Sri Lankan Forum, Mr. Shamendra Wickramarachchi, Executive Committee Secretary Mr. Yasas Dharmadasa, along with Ven. Bengamuwe Nalaka Thero and Ven. Anguruwella Jinananda Thero of the Maha Sangha, and others, call on all people who stand for national security to unite against these false agendas.

They point out that hunting down intelligence chiefs based on baseless statements by foreign institutions and channels like Channel 4, instead of securing real justice for the Easter victims, is a serious threat to the country’s sovereignty. They further state that given the former Director of the State Intelligence Service’s health condition is deteriorating seriously, the current government should provide him with proper medical treatment on humanitarian grounds, and expedite a transparent and fair legal process without extending periods of administrative detention for political purposes.

Ven. Bengamuwe Nalaka Thero, speaking to the media, said
“We, including myself, remained in court throughout the day today as an intervening party to the writ petition filed on behalf of Major General Suresh Sale. Mr. Suresh Sale is an intelligent officer who rendered a great service to the country, and the whole country should know this. People like Shani Abeysekara, Ravi Seneviratne, and Dilip Peiris have no genuine intention to protect the country. They are trying to cause great harm to Mr. Sale. We came to court to prevent that harm, and therefore we believe that truth will ultimately prevail.

President’s Counsel Sanjeewa Jayawardena, who appeared for the petitioners today, presented the facts very skillfully, and accordingly the Court has granted the 4th, 6th and 21st of August for the hearing of the case. We believe that justice will be done to Mr. Suresh Sale on those dates.”

Mr. Shamendra Wickramarachchi, Executive Director of the Global Sri Lankan Forum, stated
“Behind this case there is a grand conspiracy to place the burden of the Easter attacks on Major General Suresh Sale, the intelligence services, and the Sinhala Buddhist community. We directly allege that this conspiracy is being driven by the current government, the Cardinal, as well as Ravi Seneviratne and Shani Abeysekara, who are the real masterminds behind the Easter attacks. The Cardinal knew in advance that the Easter attack would take place, which is why he did not go to church that day. Ravi Seneviratne, Shani Abeysekara, and Dilip Peiris themselves admitted before the Parliamentary Select Committee that they had the ability to prevent the attack but avoided it. To cover up those serious mistakes made by them, they are engaged in a plan to destroy the Military Intelligence by shifting blame onto external parties. The Sinhala Buddhist people of this country, and any people with national pride, will never allow this. We call on all citizens of the country to stand together against these treasonous conspiracies and on behalf of Mr. Suresh Sale.”

Mr. Yasas Dharmadasa, Executive Committee Secretary of the Global Sri Lankan Forum, stated
“Our Forum intervened as an additional party to Mr. Sale’s writ petition with the aim of showing the world how law and justice are being implemented in the country. We intervened in support because it appears that this judicial process is taking place in a very slow and unlawful manner, and certain parties are trying to take illegal control of judicial proceedings. The Cardinal’s statement that this writ petition should not be heard is a shameful statement that is contrary to natural justice, and we believe that even the Catholic people do not approve of such unpleasant conduct by the Cardinal. We suspect that the order to not act on intelligence information and to completely dismantle the intelligence camp was given to Messrs. Shani and Ravi Seneviratne by the then political authority, including Mr. Ranil Wickremesinghe. Therefore, in the future, in addition to Ravi and Shani, the finger of accusation of this conspiracy should also be pointed at Mr. Ranil Wickremesinghe and others, and legal action should be taken regarding it.”
