INTERPOL Assistance Sought to arrest former LTTE Tamil Terrorists and Funding – Weerasekara
Minister of Public Security, Rear Admiral (Retired) Sarath Weerasekara said, on 27 November, assistance of the INTERPOL, the CID and Intelligence Forces will be sought to track down and take action against those who collect funds for the LTTE overseas.
“There are many persons who collected funds for the LTTE in foreign countries. Since that is illegal, we hope to seek assistance from the INTERPOL and Governments in those countries to take action against them. The Intelligence Forces and the CID have also started to collect information on such persons and their associates who live in Sri Lanka. This information would be highly useful for future action.
The former United National Front-led Government had not taken any action regarding these persons and as a result, their network has grown. But we will investigate and take action against them,” he assured.
Further, there are over 30 former LTTE Tamil terrorists are under Interpol red warrant and they need to be arrested and prosecuted for their crimes.
