The National Joint Committee (NJC) will hold a special conference tomorrow (Oct 23) at the Sri Lanka Foundation Institute (SLFI) to highlight the ongoing moves to divide post-war Sri Lanka through constitutional means.

The NJC will also launch Sri Lanka Orumiththanadu on this occasion.

A spokesman for the NJC told The Island that the government was going ahead with its controversial project to introduce a new constitution in accordance with the overall understanding with Western powers as well as Geneva Resolution co-sponsored by Sri Lanka in Oct 2015.

The conference will be chaired by Most Ven Thrikunamale Ananda thera.

Most Ven Medagama Dhammananda, Ven Elle Gunawansa, President’s Counsel Manohara de Silva, Dr. Lalithasiri Gunaruwan and Gevindu Kumaratunga are scheduled to address the gathering.

The spokesman said the conference would focus on the Sirisena-Wickremesinghe government giving into separatist project at the expense of unitary status of the country. The spokesman said that the transformation of the unitary status to federal structure meant nothing, but the division of Sri Lanka on ethnic lines. The government had forgotten the immense sacrifices made by the military over the years to bring the war to a successful conclusion nearly a decade ago. Unfortunately, those who lost the war had managed to turn around the situation to such an extent; the country was now faced with division through constitutional means
