‘One Country, One Law’ – Eastern Governor

The Governor to Eastern Province, Mrs. Anuradha Yahampath, recently appointed by President Mr Gotabaya Rajapaksa, has emphasized that one of her core duties is to see whether the unitary status of Sri Lanka gets threatened from the Eastern province.
“You can have cultural differences and values. But, we all are citizens of Sri Lanka. For marriage, we have to have one law. A lot of Muslim women met me and stressed the need for it. I stand up for one country, one law,” governor was quoted as responding in an interview to newspaper.

“If any agreement that affects our country’s sovereignty, I will raise it. I will not hesitate to do it and will speak against it. My duty is to serve the country,” Mr. Anuradha Yahampath added in her response.

“I feel for my country. Likewise, Muslims and Tamils in the East should also feel the same. My prime duty is to protect the country’s 2500-year-old Sinhala Buddhist based civilization and its values,” she had proudly added to the interview.

“I become aggressive only when separatism raises its head.”

Mrs. Yahampath also said that the 13th Amendment should be re-looked and that the Government should be seeking withdrawal from the UN resolution – 30/1 which it had co-sponsored at the UN Human Rights Council in Geneva during the previous government lead by pro-minority Ranil Wickramasinghe.

She had previously gone to Geneva to campaign against the one-sided 30/1 pro-Tamil UNHRC Resolution co-sponsored by the Yahapalana government with Tamil Diaspora.
