Some countries still not happy that Lanka ended war with LTTE – PM

Prime Minister Mahinda Rajapaksa says some countries are still not happy that Sri Lanka ended the war with the LTTE.

Addressing a passing out parade of 321 Cadet officers at the Sri Lanka Military Academy at Diyatalawa on Saturday (21), the Prime Minister said that the Army had been able to defeat the most ruthless terrorist group in the world.

He said that militaries around the world had a lot of respect for the Sri Lanka army, but some countries were unhappy that Sri Lanka had ended the war.

“But no matter what politicians say the military in those countries have a positive opinion of our Army,” Premier Rajapaksa said.

PM Rajapaksa said that the Sri Lankan security forces had shown their professionalism and worked in an exemplary manner.

“You are today joining a proud Army, which has eradicated the world’s most ruthless terrorist organisation,” the Prime Minister said.

The Prime Minister, who was the Chief Guest on the occasion, laid a wreath at the SLMA war memorial and recalled invaluable sacrifices of fallen War Heroes. Also present were Secretary Defence, Major General (Retd) Kamal Gunaratne, Commander of the Army and the SLMA Commandant, Brigadier S.K. Eshwaran.

A high-level foreign army delegation, diplomats, embassy officials, parents and a large gathering were also present on the occasion.
