Pro-Minority Sirisena Appointed Federalist as Northern Province Governor
Pro-minority Sri Lankan President Maithripala Sirisena who came to the power from the minority’s’ votes appointed Reginald Cooray, leftist federalist as Governor of the Tamil-majority Northern Province.
Ranil and Sirisena loyalist SLFP politician, Cooray succeeds former civil servant HMGS Palihakkara, who voluntarily demitted office last week on completion of his short term fixed by an agreement between him and the Sirisena government.
Extremist Tamil political party leaders; Mano Ganeshan, and R Sampanthan has welcomed as Cooray as a Federalist. Cooray has told the media “the majority is not always right.”
The appointment of Cooray has been widely influenced by former President Chandrika who is tirelessly working to form a States of Union in Sri Lanka in line with her infamous so called peace package proposal.
