True Story of Chemmani Grave
At a time when Buddhists are greatly distressed due to the great betrayal by Ekneligoda orchestrated by the diaspora on one side and the imprisonment of Ven. Gnanasara Thero who opposed it, Professor Raj Somadeva has submitted to the court the observation report of the Chemmani excavation, which for three or four years has been insulting the Sinhala army and people by making them out to be guilty and uncomfortable. This excavation was also conducted under the leadership of Professor Raj Somadeva.
There are a few points that Raj Somadeva has clarified through the Chemmani excavation.
These bodies buried adjacent to, near the Chemmani burial ground, have been clearly separated from the main cemetery and buried.
As evidence confirming that some bodies were buried in coffins during such burial, nails and iron strips used for making coffins have been found.
It confirms that some bodies were buried in a somewhat orderly manner.
Also, there is evidence that bodies buried irregularly do not seem to have been aimed at a specific direction or were buried without a direction for the head.
Also, along with those bodies, signs of pacifying rituals of the kind sometimes performed on sick people, such as tying toddy and betel offerings, have been seen.
Furthermore, the finding of factors such as buttons and eyelets shows evidence that these people were wearing clothes.
Also, no evidence of cuts or gunshots has been found on the bones found here.
Accordingly, what is stated in Professor Raj Somadeva’s observation report is that it is observed that people who died due to some epidemic condition have been buried in an adjoining part of the main cemetery itself.
It can also be observed that some of the bodies were placed in coffins with the intervention of relatives, and bodies that cannot be considered to have had relatives come forward were buried irregularly by a hospital or some other group.
Chemmani was hyped as a mass grave and as the result of a barbaric killing carried out by the Sinhala army, and various dramas were built. Books were written and reports were issued.
You should now understand with how much difficulty and distress the Sinhala people in this country live.
It appears that the god Vajrapani has begun to do justice to the Sinhalese.
The Sinhalese need justice. Need freedom. Need to protect their heritage.
The true Sinhala Buddhist is today exhausted because of a handful belonging to the nation itself who, while being within the nation, betray it.
It is now up to the government to enforce the law against those who incited people and wrote false books.
